Cambridge

Hi V.

Shamefully late reply again, I really am very bad.
Went to Cambridge last week, which was lovely. Had a 2-day course together with Julia for certain software we will use. The course progressed from disastrous into catastrophical. The highlights:
Day 1:
· The course started with a sentence going roughly like 'If you plug the cable into the 1401 and then perform the Hanning manoeuvre..' or similar. Needless to say that both Julia & I are not familiar with these buzzwords.
· After 1 hour panic struck and we went up to one of the tutors to get private lessons in the basics of the software
· After hour of private lesson, tutor suggested we should ask supervisor to send us some actual data of our own, to analyse with software during private lesson.
· Finally managed to get hold of supervisor who sounded quite worried as we should not have attended course on data analysis but rather data sampling
· Course on data sampling had just finished while we were attending private lesson on data analysis.
· Then had to go back to private tutor to explain that not only brains are too small to understand data analysis but also stupid enough to attend wrong course. Tutor smilingly agreed to provide private lesson in data sampling. By that time we were the risee of the class and people were laughing at us behind our backs or in front.
· Finally at end of day we were assigned to be driven back into city centre by friendly old man/fellow classmate. Friendly senior classmate turned out to be mad senile stalker taking pictures of us, demanding e-mail addresses and insisting to go drink coffee together. Managed to get rid of him by hiding in Habitat. Is shop.
Day 2:· Woke up with flu, headache & fever. However still optimistic as day 2 could not feasibly be worse than day 1.
· Then upon arrival, we were told that through some loop in the system our supervisor had accidentally send 15 MB data file to coursecompany five times and thereby effectively melted their Modem.
· Also, as we found out later, supervisor had in same action melted own computer and could have halted whole university network if he hadn't pulled out the plug.
Day 3:· Flu still worse but happy to be going back home
· Managed to find way from B&B to Heathrow airport successfully, very proud of self up till about 30 minutes before departure. Routinely checked bag for tickets & passport to find out they were not there. Panicked. Ran to BA information stand. Very friendly BA official explained I had e-ticket so he could print out another one & just needed some form of ID, i.e. driver's licence. Looked in bag to search for wallet to find out wallet had gone as well.
· Rescued by airhostess carrying my stuff that I had accidentally left behind in different waiting room.

Otherwise, Cambridge was lovely. Beautiful city, very colourful, nice shops, great food, trees in blossom. Was super!

All the best,
Ydwine
